Comments: Overcast skies and temps in low 60s. Canyon was very slippery and the big log in R3 still remains unfortunately. New bolts were added at R5 to replace the pinch point webbing anchor that requires annual replacement. All other anchors were in good condition The lower section is super scenic with some rebelays and great exposure. New anchors were added at the hanging pool below the big drop so the canyon can be run with 60m ropes. Exiting the big falls was not fun but totally worth running the lower section. It was EXTREMELY slippery and a lot of down logs to manage that are new. We used the same scramble up exit as last year to the shuttle mid-point exit Great day with a solid crew!

Comment: A day of extremes. Overcast skies, very slippery canyon, and many blow-downs detracted from the Upper section. But my god! The lower section is amazing. A huge multistage waterfall. High flow made it look incredible, with double rooster trails and general aquatic mayhem. Despite the chaos it was straight-forward to rappel. We did it in two pitches (skipping R12). We also doubled-up the R13 single bolt to make a great exposed stance. The down-climbing below the big falls was terrible - hideously slimy and very slow progress. Then we exited DCR by scrambling up to the ridge line and returning back to the vehicles at the mid-point exit. This too was unpleasant, with loose terrain followed by steep clear-cut bushwhacking. Despite both these enormous detractors the multistage still made it worth it. I'm still convinced there's a better way to exit by climbing to the rim and then dropping to the power-station and walking out the gated road. I think I'd prefer 2 miles of flat road to climbing clear-cut, but hard to say by going off maps alone. (This is different from the original exit idea of crossing the river).

Comment: We ran upper and lower. Lower is a much different beast - very deep canyon walls with much higher flow. The flow seemed to be about double what it was in upper. The 250ft waterfall is one of the tallest vertical falls in WA and features a severe roostertail that blasts horizontally out about 2/3 down. The 2nd tier of the big fall rappel has a huge curtain to duck under and a behind the veil rappel. The downclimbing from the last rappel to the hike out is some of the best in WA. I would give the upper 3-star and the lower 5-star.

Comment: Its clear no one has been here in years. Found two pieces of very old webbing. We only did the upper canyon - to the base of Old Spur Falls. We did it in 4 rappels and a few downclimbs. Above the technical section, there is a LOT of wood. Once you get into the technical section, the canyon is quite beautiful. Water is incredibly low throughout the state right now, and in low conditions, the canyon is a3 - definitely not a4. Benign with relatively short rappels... but also with some good exposure to get to some of the rappels. All in all a fun day!
