Comments: It was light rain showers in Pasadena the night and week before our visit. The weather forecast indicated rain 10AM in the San Gabriel Range so we headed more north where rain ETA was to be after 3PM. A few puddles in the canyon and some avoidable water on the exit.
The approach hike is a nice workout with views of the pass and canyons. Patrol guard at the top gate to the private property mentioned that there have been recent mountain lion sightings.
Either we bypassed R1 or did it as a downclimb, R2,R3,R4 were a bit loose but OK.
