Comments: Party of 3. Russell Gulch first for all. 2nd time for Subway for one. All anchors in good condition. Removed debris in anchors and bolts and webbing from recent rains and water flow.
Hike to top of first rappel is lush and scenic. Pool just before 1st rappel is VERY COLD. We all had wetsuits and were very glad we had them. Pool about 20 feet from bottom of 1st was full. 2 of us avoided it completely but one could not and had to wade in. Could not touch the bottom. At the bottom. somewhat deep and very murky. About 10-15 foot section along RDC could not touch bottom.
Bottom of rappel 2 has a deep pool. Dirty and murky water. Lot of tadpoles and frogs. Could not touch bottom for a 15-foot section.
Rappel 3 can be done as 1-stage or 2-stage. We did 2-stage. 3 of us rappelled down from tree anchor to start of 2nd stage. Enough room for 3 of us to be there. Setup the next rappel. You land on rocks. There is a small shallow pool but water edge is about 6-8 feet away from where you land.
These 3 raps took longer than expected. Could have shaved off 45-60 minutes going faster and shorter break.

Comment: We did Russell Gulch with Subway. The Russell Gulch portion does not need wetsuit although do expect to get feet wet. Water at the bottom of the rappels were knee deep at most. All anchors were good. All 3 rappels were about 90'. We used a 200' rope and that was sufficient. The optional rappel was shorter. Great addition for Subway approach.

Comment: 4 of us ran ot with Subway. Water was not avoidable on the first 2 rappels, but not really swimmers. The bottom of rap 2 is a swim for a half a second before hitting the sandbar in the middle of the pool. We used 4/3mm wetsuits and were fine for the most part. Anchors are in good shape and there was new webbing on rap 2.

Comment: All anchors in great condition. Most water was avoidable except rap 2, swimmer. Rap 4 is skanky and did the climb around. No wetsuits needed. 9 hours including subway.

Comment: Fun Canyon to do before dropping into the Subway which we did. There were two unavoidable waist deep pools at R1 and R2 that had to be rappeled into. Nice to have on a hot day. All anchors in good shape. R3 can be rappelled from the bolts by downclimbing to that point or from the tree higher up but requires a longer rope (120 foot)
