Comments: The route seems much more overgrown than last year about the same time. With minimal use, the Salmonberry is in danger of becoming a lost trail. Best sections: east end to Wolf Creek, Belding Road area in the middle, and the west end. Large tree fell and hit the Wolf Creek trestle, doing some damage. Encountered an adult cougar on the north side west of Enright. Bounded out from behind a thicket about 15ft away and went tearing away down the tracks.

Comment: Soloed the Salmonberry for the second time. Love this hike although it is starting to get pretty grown over in the lower half. A group that I passed were doing minor trimming of the brush along the trail. Weather was perfect and I camped just after the final tunnel, across from the water tower on a mossy hill along the shore of the river. Hiking time was 5hrs the first day and <2hrs the second day, but I was moving fast. I did the shuttle with my dirtbike, leaving my truck at the bottom. I covered the dirtbike with a tarp in the woods at the start so it wouldn't be easily seen.

Comment: Arranged to be dropped off and picked up by a friend to avoid leaving a car at either end. Fascinating to see all of the old railroad infrastructure. At least one tunnel is collapsing, but it can be bypassed by hiking around the end of the ridge. Camped on a gravel bar above the river. Not a trip for your average hiker.
