Comments: A lot of water, pretty darn chilly, but so hot in the wetsuit that it felt pretty refreshing. Water was pretty pushy, used final anchor DCL to avoid getting the brunt of the flow for that rap.

Comment: The weather was sunny hiking the approach, but the clouds socked into the area with a strong breeze once I got to R1, making for a chilly trip. The road is totally clear of snow, but the approach gully is full of deep snow. The snow is soft enough to climb up with some "post holing" issues. The exposed trail traverse is totally clear of snow. There is a sizeable snow cave above R1 that might be worth checking out.

Now the meat of the run: SAF is "high" (C2). The pothole 2/3 down R1 is quite spicy! The R2 corridor has 2 broken off trees in it that are best avoided as the water flow is fierce through the branches, and a rope will likely get caught in those trees too. R2 has the far DCR chain anchors that will avoid this mess. R3 is a hammer fest from the DCL anchor (blue webbing), but mellow enough from the DCR (chains). R4 is spicy 1/2 way down; I went DCL on the slab to avoid the high speed water flow. R5, I cheated with the DCL anchor which is not in the flow, but some spray at the bottom. Water temp was 40F! Don't skimp on thermal protection!

Comment: There was too much water and rocks flowing across the dip in the road before Manker Flats to park in the normal location, so I hiked from a pullout before that. There was no snow on the approach or in the canyon because the warm rain had melted it all. And this made the flow EXTREME! There was no way to run the normal rappels safely, so I downclimbed along the left side and took pictures and videos.

Comment: I spent extra time working on some of the old rusted 5 piece bolts. I managed to remove the bashed one on R4 (big boulder) with an impact wrench. Water flow is holding in there nicely (see pic)

Comment: The waterflow is still hanging in there (see pic). The anchor chains have been rearranged so you feed rope through 2 links on each anchor, but otherwise are all solid.

Comment: Well, we did not have 40 people in our group! But there were 2 rescue teams doing training, and 2 other large groups there. Needless to say we used of alternate anchors to get people down in a timely fashion (special challenges). I've never seen it so busy! Water flow is surprising high for this late in the season and with such a dry year (see pic).

Comment: Training for San Bernardino Cave and Technical Rescue team. Observed a few groups pass us in the canyon, those groups mostly utilized thick dynamic rope, atcs, knot chocks. Utilized nonstandard anchors to move a mock patient downstream outside the waterflow.

Comment: Replaced a couple of rusty bolts and had a nice relaxed pace through the canyon. Two of us did a second lap through the canyon. Willie: flow is still decent (see pictures). Water temp is in the 60's F.

Comment: Although water flow is "low" (see pic) the conditions were fantastic: 60F crystal clear water, full Sun, light breeze, and 80's air temp. The flow is higher than I would expect considering how dry it has been. Also, I did an extra lap which added 40 minutes for the total 3.3 hours car to car.

Comment: My first (of many) time here. What a GREAT little canyon. Highly recommend for everyone!

That said, I could not have been more surprised and disappointed with the amount of bolts and chains in the canyon. DISGUSTSING! On top of that - All but 1 waterfalls have more than 1 double-bolted stations. However the 1 drop that have only 1 set of double bolts is the one where the bolts are rusted and hangers flattened due to poor location and MUST be replaced...

I have a Drill & Bolts. If you have a Bolt Removal Tool, contact me and let's take care of that.

Comment: Water flow may have perked up a bit from the thunder storms on Wednesday (see pic). I did not measure the water temp, but it's definitely warm enough that a wetsuit is overkill. Anchors are in good shape.

Comment: In the sun, you're good with just a rain jacket. I'd probably take a wetsuit if it was at night or the air temps were below 65. I wore a 3mm farmer and was hot the whole time.

Comment: Water flow was "moderate low" (see picture); matches that reference pic; not any significant force even standing in the waterfalls. Water was quite chilly, but I did not have my thermometer. Anchors are all good. We did 2 laps for 3.0 hours car to car.
