Comments: Water was low, as expected, yet there was a significant flash flood recently. We did the full route just to check out R1 and R2. All the anchor webbing is good, except the webbing on R2, R4 & R7 which is old. We backed up those. The dead tree anchor on R4 (upper reference waterwall) is still holding position. We added webbing anchor DCL on a small tree for R8 which takes about 30 feet of rope to get down.

Comment: We camped in the 4x4 parking area, Hiked up the road to the Full Approach, hit the saddle shortcut and exited the short approach. An early start helped us avoid some of the heat on the hike in but not on the hike out. The exit is a bit of a climb straight up a hill side and totally bush wacky. Webbing and anchors were in good condition, we encountered no one at the dam or in any of the watering holes. Picked up cans and random trash.

Comment: The hike up exit is terrible. I would never repeat that exit.

Comment: Thanks to a wet winter, the flow was still serious in late May! Basically my first experience in a true class C canyon. Mostly likely it was more accurately C1, not C2, but given the reference photos (which were later edited) and other reports, I gave it a "high" water flow.

Joshua took his DSLR and we spent a bunch of time taking stills and videos. The air temp was around 100F, so we did not want to rush and overheat in our wetsuits. We approached from the modified sneak route, and exited up the steep slope when the Sun was lower, but still brutally hot.

I lost my footing on the cascade rappel, got spun around, and my wetsuit filled up with water down the neck. My pack (not a class C canyon pack) took on enough water to become extreme heavy too. I could not upright myself with so much trapped water weight, so I rappelled on my side to the pool, swam across, then dealt with the flooding.

Comment: All anchors are good. Last rappel we skipped w/downclimb dcr. Needs a new anchor, but we decided not worth it. Too much exposure if anyone's at the dam. The water was strong! Definitely C-class.

Comment: Trip was great. 5.5 hours from Car to Car doing the full trip. We descended down the Approach Full (Unconfirmed) route on the wiki map. Found it to be easy enough, some whacking of the bush was involved. The "Short" Exit up, is very steep and bushwhacky. We didn't need wetsuits but neither of us really get cold. Met some locals that were heading up to rappel #5 with a cooler of beers. See video for the trip.

Comment: We had a wonderful trip. The canyon is quite spectacular, with a variety of scenery and enough water to add some fun. Thanks to all who made the trip possible.

Comment: The final section of this canyon is strikingly similar to the canyons in the Sierras. It features large-ish rappels (up to 150'), slides, jumps, hanging pools, swimming pools, and a fern hanging garden. The approach and exit are short and sweet. If you absolutely love river walking in wetsuits, run the full canyon. Otherwise, go for the short descent for the most bang for your buck. I'd rank this at the same level as my favorite canyons in Socal (Monkeyface, Eaton, and Big Falls!) What an exciting find!
