Comments: Ran this canyon with no condition dependent issues, keeper was not in play and after the afternoon's flash rain, will not be in play for a second here, though still go prepared. The skunk smell as nearly disappeared, at least it was not quite strong today when I passed the remains unawares.
Between 4/3 and 5/4 wetsuits today, 5/4 still ideal for groups running slower or who tend to run colder. Some in 4/3 were chilly by the final rap.
Final rap was not as spectacular as I pictured, but I enjoyed it. Still beautiful, and stands out, but Bear remains a top canyon for me and the group as well, I think, alongside Wilbur for this area.
Final anchor station is messy thanks to some not-so-pretty grey mil spec webbing tied to a fraying green tubular tech webbing. In all cases, was good to go for today, if anyone who replaces the webbing next when needed can rig a proper anchor and remove one of the two quicklinks, that would be ideal.

Comment: Standard route. 3 raps. Easy beached whale pothole exits. The infamous skunk, on dry ground just beyond a pothole, maintains a strong legacy that defies, yea, incorporates its state of advanced decomposition. The flavor is unrepentantly skunk, but with a strong final note of decay. It will stay with you as long as your memory of the amazing final rappel.
Water is cold. We were all glad to be in full suits, and, as usual, still shivering a bit by the final sequence. This place somehow is windy and sunless every single time I run this canyon. WCC is crushingly beautiful on the hike out.

Comment: Full 5/4mm was comfortable. Our team member in a 4/3 was fairly cold by the final rap. The 7+ month-old decaying skunk is still in play. It's largely intact but is now floating in a different pool (mandatory swimmer) further down canyon.

Comment: Brought my Dad through for his first time to show him the ropes! Put him in a drysuit so he was comfy, Sean and I wore 4/3s and were chilly but okay. Would have been happier in my 5/4 I think. Dead skunk in the first swimmer! Keeper is low, jump up and reach far out for the bomber hold! Dad loved the 180’ freehang! Fall colors in full effect! What a good day!

Comment: Another great run down a classic. Expect a friend in the slide pothole, a black and white striped, rotting, friend. Just leaving this as a warning to upcoming groups about the dead skunk. Pothole is in low mode and makes it a fun bonus challenge.

Comment: Beautiful and fun with a fantastic finish. Our beginner had a hard time escaping the pothole under her own steam but eventually got it with some help. Do not underestimate the pothole, it is a cold swimmer with a 4ft lip. An experienced canyoneer can climb out of it with some effort but new people should have someone ready to lend a hand or a rope. Final rappel is wonderful as always.

Comment: All anchors and webbing in good shape, water was stagnant and smelly, zigzag pothole water level was about 2 feet below the rim

Comment: My wife decided not to wear a wetsuit and was happy with her choice. Her feet got cold towards the end. I wore a 4/3 and was comfy. Removed some bad webbing. Great little canyon for AZ.

Comment: Replaced webbing at R1. Pools were fairly clear with a light trickle of flow. Water was not warm. Found some gear that was left by the car park - contact me if it's yours.

Comment: We did the un-published “sneak approach” down to the final drop, which bypasses the slot. If you know, you know! ;)
Going this way yields 3 rappels to get off the rim and down to the final 180’ bolt station keeping you dry but missing the slot for a completely different experience! Final drop off rim into slot puts you right at the 180’ bolt station is 110’ and very fun! All webbing is in good condition! | |||||||

Comment: Happy Halloween! Very much a treat to run this canyon, only trick is staying warm. Pretty chilly by the end with 2mm shorty under 4/3 full body. Fall colors in full swing. Other than temps, canyon was amazing. Potholes were all full and provided easy escape. All anchors in good shape. Final rap was incredible. Dropping into the amphitheater out of the slot is an awesome feeling. Fish were biting on small flies, hauled out some trash from campsites. Exit was quick and easy after our fishing excursion.

Comment: Such a beautiful canyon with a truly fantastic final rappel! Like a mini Insomnia. Pools are all full to the brim and cold. All are easy to safely control your slide down into. Take your time to enjoy the sculpted rock features you get to the big rap much quicker than you think! Hike out Point Trail is a stair stepper but easy and quick!

Comment: All potholes overflowing. The water is high enough that we were able to do a small jump and down climb most of the canyon.
