Comments: Cold morning. Standing water in numerous places. Rocks and logs were wet and slick. Stopped at the ridge outlook for a snack, geared up there, and then entered the canyon via R1(a). Lots of moss, vines, mushrooms, etc. throughout the canyon. Very lush, but not real brushy. Don’t recall any challenging downclimbs.

Comment: We took the longer route and skipped the rappel by going LDC. Lots of brush and debris in the water course.

Comment: OK day, ridge view was nice and canyon is cooled down. Avoiding the rappels was a horrid adventure, I would recommend downclimbing R1(b) if that is your plan (easy enough, class 4/low 5), most of the area DRC of R1(a) cliffs out, otherwise I’d recommend rapping R1(a) with an extended sling (bring mucho webbing) to avoid the conglomerate on rope or ghosting from the ridge off a tree from up high (probably a 80-100 ft rap).

Comment: Worthwhile, easy but beautiful hike with birdsong and ends near the creek.

Grippy shoes reccomended on those polished boulders.

    pack light and enjoy!
