Comment: First part of the hike was easy. Where where three stream crossings with decently deep water but as long as you pick your path right and use a stick for balance you can get through it with dry feet. The approach path once you diverve from the trail is BRUTAL. Be prepared for long stretches of crumbly uphill and very vaguely marked trail.

After the third crossing about halfway down the trail that goes through the bend in the river, the metal pipe marking the beginning of the approach trail will be on the right behind a dirt mound. The scramble up to the first telephone pole is super steep and loose but the trail is decently followable. After the first group of poles, follow the ridgeline and there will be another trail at the end of the clearing. There will be what looks like a fork but KEEP RIGHT. The trail starts to switchback here. You will find a fixed rope that will help you climb up to the next group of poles. The trail from the second group of poles is straight through across the clearing from where you entered. It gets a little flatter from here as you cross to the third group of poles. Once you get to the third clearing, hook right and at the far end of the clearing you will find a tunnel through the brush that takes you to the drop in spot. The rope is old and doesn't feed well if you want to rappel but it works ok in low friction mode.

The canyon itself was awesome. There was a little trickle of water throughout, great for filtering since we consumed so much on the climb up. All anchors look solid. There are some small pools, but they're pretty avoidable. Id recommend doing R8 in two parts.

Overall, good canyon, tough approach. Id recommend only doing it if you're in good shape. The white flags marking the trail are virtually non-existent, so if someone brought some tape to remark it, it would make the approach much better.

Comment: At a leisurely canyon pace and silly hiccups, canyon was awesome. Bolts look good, water is cold but neoprene socks (3mm and 5mm) and gloves kept us mostly warm. Wouldn't go in bedrocks but I like being comfy, currently one short swim that ends in the sun.

Comment: Near flood stage water levels made this run extremely challenging. Had to improvise several additional rappels, retrievable handlines, and partner assists to get through. On S1, before reaching The Notch, we broke up the slide to two retrievable handline sections using equivocation hitches. Because the notch was a hydraulic, we intermediately anchored off a log jam in the pothole above Notch Falls to reduce the chance of sticking our rope on the pull. After the Notch, we meat anchored handlines through the initial scramble sections, then some more intermittent short raps throughout the remainder of the creekwhack where scrambling/downclimbing wasn't realistic with the conditions we had.

Comment: Took my family of 5 (7, 10, 13) through the canyon starting at 11 am. Even though it was super nice out (maybe a little windy, which was actually nice) the kids all complained on the hike up so we stopped more than a few times which added a bunch of time. We also hung out for a while above the last rap.

Zero water in the canyon. All the webbing was in decent shape and all quick links were present.

Comment: A top notch big rappel to start and incredible dissolution pockets/unique rock features make this route huge bang for the buck! Especially when combined with Wife 5! Total time is for Wives 3 & 5.

After we ran 5, we climbed up the fin directly DCL of 5. This is a perfect sneak route to easily get up to 3.

First rappel has no anchor present. There is a large pine that seems to be in a poor position for pull so we fiddled off a large natural arch in wall DCL. This rappel was every bit of my 225’ rope and mostly free hanging… GLORIOUS!

Rest of the canyon was quick but very beautiful, super fun! Back down in less than 2 hours. Highly recommend!

Comment: Incredible dissolution pockets, arches, and neat rock features throughout! Huge bang for the buck route! Especially when combined with Wife 3!

    Time is for Wife 5 & 3.

Approached the standard way for 5. Can confirm the large drop is 80’ as our 75’ rope was accidentally rigged here and reached with a 5’ stemming downclimb.

Canyon is quick and took 2 hrs to get back to trail where we easily up-climbed the 1st fin directly DCL of the slot to get back up to Wife 3.

Most of the anchors in these canyons area off natural arches and use a ton of webbing, very ugly and non sustainable. These routes should be bolted in my opinion…

Comment: Wow. We were blown away with this one. Simply incredible slot. Intricate, grandiose, and just keeps going!

Larry starts with some average stemmy slot that is somewhat shallow and mostly to avoid the thick mud and bog water below. However the further you go the deeper and more interesting the slot gets. The last half of the canyon is amazing, truely top notch, tons of variety. Narrow passages winding that open to large rooms then close up again, wild stuff.

Some water further on is unavoidable but at most waist deep and not very cold. The section near the end gets quite dark, headlamps needed. It looks like you can stay high here stemming across log jams but there is a dry easy walking chamber below, so go down low at your first opportunity here.

The technical section is long, longer than you may think, especially after doing Alcatraz the day before. The exit walking down the wide canyon is also long and although we intended to do full Larry, once on the exit we decided to scramble up the sneak as full seems to add a ton more wide open wash walking and a much longer exit.

The sneak was easy to identify and climb out, still providing a full day at a leisurely pace.

Comment: Replaced webbing to All rappels but 2 (R3 & 14 need replacement soon).

Removed some unnecessary webbing from wrong/bad anchors. Tightened some loose bolts and reoriented some hangers that were twisted in the wrong direction. As the previous report said: The anchor for R16 is no more. Use the R15 bolted anchor and combine with 16. Easy pull and takes 2x100'.

Comment: We did this canyon at a leisure pace. 1 of us had done it before, 3 were first timers and pleasantly surprised to find that this canyon consists of fun narrow after narrow. The weather was perfect, high 60s low 70s mostly overcast with some breeze, which really helps with the slog of approach and exit. I run cold and shorty wet suit was fine; 3 others did not wear wet suit and did fine as well. We didn't encounter any swimmer pools (able to walk through all pools). Several pools, mostly calf or waist deep. Only the 2 larger pools in the last narrow smell like death, the others were all clean-ish.

Comment: The approach through drainage was overgrown and very brushy. Lots of obstacles. Reminded me of the Headress exit, only much longer. Replaced all webbing and moved the first anchor to the living part of the tree. The exit was pretty grueling, with the rock slide being the easiest part. It was difficult to find a "safe" way around the cliff band that didn't involve steep drop-offs, crumbly rock, and exposure.

Comment: Time includes a couple hours of fishing WCC (tiny fish, wouldn’t bother again). Took the Four Boulders/“short exit, which is a mostly pleasant hike up WCC and Clover Creek, pretty this time of year. It goes into slightly loose class 3, and looked a few times like it might cliff me out, but there was always a reasonable way forward. With this route, roads extend further along approach and exit than maps suggest. A second set of wheels could shave off another half hour or so, but it’s a short route anyway.

Pothole still in challenging, but not keeper mode. Arch anchor for pothole bypass rap is not visible from above or even on rappel, but easy to find after completing R5 by looking slightly high RDC.

Comment: All anchors that were found in great shape. Add alt anchor on rap 1 RDC around a tree to avoid the pool. Couldn't locate anchors for raps 6 & 7. I ghosted rap 6 around a tree LDC. Rap 7 I used a big stone LDC, I think i threw 80ft of rope..... this is a very temporary anchor. It will be gone in the event of heavy water flow. Use at your own risk. I'm 165lbs and held me no problem...
