Comments: Woody is full of water. It rained recently, flushed the canyon so the cow-poop and dirty water are all gone. Currently it has the pleasant smell of pine needles and juniper berries. (but as those rot that will change lol).

At the one true rappel there was just enough sand to either set up a sandtrap for a rappel anchor or fill potshots for the down-canyon escape. We elected not to use the sand trap and instead hooked at this spot with a BD Grappling hook. (worked really well).

Since this sand could get used up with successive groups you may consider farming sand from the start of the main fork to here.

We did not throw from here but got people down into the pothole where the was a spot to stand/stem to make a short toss. The base of the escape is currently a swimmer so having a potshot helped to get up and over. We then did 2:1 hauls to get the team out.

Three of us wore farmer-john wetsuits and were comfortable. One did not use a wesuit and was fine, but they run hot. Water was cold, but not ice cold. We all did shiver a bit when wet and in the shade and wind but were fine when in the water, moving, or in the sun.

We did NOT do the Pothole Fork but I would assume that it is quite full too. Sandtraps are not practical with these water levels / wet sand so I would highly recommend a water anchor especially in that fork.

Comment: Woody canyon was fun for the potholes, but since there’s a lot of cows in the region the potholes are filled with cow poop. One of the most disgusting smells and feelings I’ve had was having to jump into a keeper and get cow poop filled water over my head. Absolutely reeked the rest of the day. Cool little canyon, would be good to practice potshots and sandtraps sans cow poop water. If you do this canyon be prepared with a portable shower. My car still smells like it.

No wetsuit needed if you decide to brave the poop fest.

Comment: Time is for woody+pothole fork. A few deep pools, one had a strong manure smell going on. Plenty of sand for all the sand trap anchor spots. A fun but hot day.

Comment: Completely dry except for knee-deep final pothole. Dropped in just after the first series of potholes, so we upclimbed for fun. Easy sandtrap placement for anchors. Used potshots for final pothole just to practice the throw -- all holes escapable with partner assist. Great half-day canyon.
