Introduction[edit]

Brennen's beta is 20 years old at this point. There is no motor vehicle access beyond the 2WD parking location on the map. In fact, you have to park further than that in the neighbor, because of a permit parking requirement anywhere near that 2WD gate.

Approach[edit]

In Brennen's beta, the "overgrown approach trail" was overgrown in 1999 and has not been maintained. It's non-existent now. So and out and back along the creek itself is really the only option.

Exit[edit]

Red tape[edit]

The gate at neighborhood edge is closed to motor vehicles, making the approach listed in Brennen's beta impossible in a car now. Even if the gate were open, the approach road travels on West Fork Cucamonga Fire Road, which is restricted to Forest Service use from Big Tree Cucamonga Road to Barrett Stoddard Road.

The lower area (West of the road) and Lower Cucamonga Canyon is closed through April 23, 2020 per Forest Order #: 05-12-53-19-02. View the map and Forest Order. After the current Order expires, check the San Bernardino National Forest list of closures for updates.

Additionally, a parking permit is required to park in the neighborhood near the approach road. It is free for residents of Rancho Cucamonga, who must first register their vehicle, and $20 per day for visitors. Permits are limited, first come first serve, and allow parking along Almond Street. More information and a link to purchase a permit can be found at the Rancho Cucamongo Paid Parking Program website. Parking is free if you park sufficiently far away into the neighborhood, adding an additional 1/2 mile to the hike, just look for the absence of "Parking by Permit Only" signs.
