Introduction[edit]
Green Mountain Creek is a steep descent with a few interesting large rappels in a really pretty valley. This is an earlier season canyon. Get into it before it dries out later in the season.
The large rappels are mandatory. Several smaller falls can be optional.
Approach[edit]
From the roadside campground near the base of the falls, walk south on road CR 4 for 0.4 miles. Just past the Cunningham Gulch Dispersed Camping area, turn left onto the Hardrock100 Trail and start gaining elevation. The trail switchbacks to the north. Depart the trail to the top of Green Mountain Creek when the trail turns west and gains more altitude.
Descent[edit]
R0: 30' can be bypassed on Canyon Right just above R1. This could be a warm up rappel for the group if rigged with an anchor.
R1: 155' from a group of willows on Canyon Right
R2: 195' from a slung rock in Canyon Center
R3 can be bypassed. Downclimb a dry gully on Canyon Right over a short ridge at the bottom of R2
R3: 85' for a 30' falls from a rock pinch in Canyon Center. Beware foot entrapment in the V-slot, but is easy to avoid.
R4: 45' can be bypassed on Canyon Right
R5: 25' can be bypassed on Canyon Right
R6: 50' can be bypassed on Canyon Right
R7: 105' from a slung rock in Canyon Center, can be bypassed on Canyon Right
Exit[edit]
