Introduction[edit]

There are two parts to this route. Part 1 has four nice rappels down beautiful cascades in the flow. Then you come to a logging road and the start of Part II. Walk the logging road 500 feet, then take a trail down to the creek where it emerges. Soon after you arrive at a confluence and a sewer treatment facility that outfalls into the creek and emits a foul smell. From here down, it is a "shit creek", through a small narrows, some decent downclimbs, and a few more rappels. It is highly recommended to immediately clean off all gear and skin to avoid skin rashes and illness!

Approach[edit]

At the large waterfall adjacent to the road, follow a well-worn trail for about five minutes to the top of the waterfall for the first two rappels. Then, cross the road and continue down the drainage.

Descent[edit]

R1 two bolts DCR Below a primitive structure with netting 90 feet to a ledge and the next anchor station

R2 two bolts in the middle of the watercourse 80 feet

Now, cross the road and continue down the creek! After a few minutes of bushwalking and creek walking, you'll arrive at the next rappel.

R3 two bolts DCR 90 feet on slippery rocks

Continuing down the creek can be pretty slippery. Follow the creek or, sometimes, a well-worn path DCL.

R4 two bolts DCR Two stages to a lower ledge and then continuing 60 feet

R5 single DCL 90 feet into a shallow pool

Continuing from here is NOT RECOMMENDED because there appears to be sewage in the creek from the nearby homes. It would be best to follow the dirt road back to the highway and get away from the lower canyon, which is disgusting.

For the “adventurous,” walk down the dirt road momentarily and then scramble down the loose side hill into “shit creek.”

R7 two bolts DCR 10 feet

R8 two bolts DCR 40 feet

Exit[edit]

At a logging camp (20.394,-98.3795), exit the canyon DCL and follow the trail up to an old logging road, passing a farm just before returning to the road, then walk back to the school if you leave a car there. The exit from this juncture was half a mile, 250 feet into elevation gain, and took about 20 minutes.

Although it’s possible to descend three more rappels, if you continue downstream, it’s not worth the health risks of being exposed to sewage. You've been warned!

Red tape[edit]

This canyon is NOT RECOMMENDED because there appears to be sewage in the creek from the nearby homes.
