Comments: Another great day in the Queretaro region.

We parked at the school and started the uphill hike from there at 10:30am (GPS track updated).

Rope pull on R1 was sucky, ideally the anchor station is moved out to the old/missing bolt station on the DCR face, and the DCL bolts are used as a traverse line. Last person should consider double-strand rappel to avoid sticking the block.

The sequence between R1 and R2 is exposed and fun. R4 is a blast in the flow!

We started the hike out from the bridge at 3pm and the sun position made for a mostly shaded exit, with stunning views. It's a slog up, but the trail is in great condition with sections of impressive stonework.

It took us 1.5hrs to exit, and we were not hassled for payment on either the approach or exit (though we all agreed contributing to the upkeep of that great exit trail wouldn't feel like being ripped-off).

Done some tidy up of the beta.

Comment: Just a light trickle moving through the canyon. Anchors in fine condition, though agree with others in that the R2 rebelay would be better positioned CR. Two stray dogs followed us along the entire approach and into the canyon, one of which fell in a cold pool of water and could not climb out - we rescued him using one of our ropes, but it was quite the fiasco as the dog became agitated and semi-aggressive. Further down canyon, we ironically found (what was left of) a different dead dog, floating in a large pool.

Comment: The beta was minimal to lacking (missing 2 raps)... I will update it as soon as I can.

Very low water conditions and likely remains so except during the wet season. Had some minimal rain around our trip that had zero impact on flows. Beware that places can be slippery. Beware that at least 3 drops are right on the edge and care and tying into anchors is essential. A couple impressive travertine falls. A couple ok slides. As of our descent date, 2 stinky dead pigs in the pool of the first big rap. Our time of 6:45 was not on the fast side because of a newer Class C canyoneer. I think that I also agree that the picture is not from this canyon.

Ran into the property owner of the cabaña LDC, of the property at the saddle, and of the trail. He said that he was going to start charging people 50 pesos to use his trail. He (and others) somehow knew where we were staying and he literally sent someone to collect the money when we got back. However, it sounds like local trails have "right of way" rules and he may have been fleecing us.

Comment: This is a great canyon and not nearly as hard as the rating suggested. It's all bolted up and even the rebelay has plenty room to sit and figure stuff out. It is well named, however. Expect to be cold. The flow was minimal and didn't affect anything technical. The approach and exit are very easy to follow, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Also, I'm pretty sure the banner pic is not from the canyon, none of our group recognize it. Maybe it's from Agua Fria II?

Comment: Beautiful descent and gorgeous landscape in a limestone canyon.

Having trouble pulling the rope on the first big rappel, doing the rebelay. If you don’t do it you might have less trouble pulling the rope. Anchors should be on the opposite side. Beautiful hike back to the car. Easily done it without a guide and with one car. Ask permission access to the owner (home right after the school, left hand side)
