Comments: A rooster tail inside the veil of another MASSIVE rooster tail is something to behold. This was my third time down Ashton and it was the best yet. High flow was AMAZING. nothing was actually cruxy but its definitely no joke and not a place for beginner-intermediates. 6 star canyon in high flow.

We added additional anchors (v-threads & pulse holes) to a few spots that needed it. The red & black cord we used is 5mm Titan Cord. Canyon should be good to go for the season! Water was surprisingly warm compared to previous years. Found a helmet on the bushwhack in.

Comment: Good day in Ashton! The low flow definitely detracts from the overall enjoyment but it is still worth doing in the late season. Time excludes time spent lapping the final rappel and hanging out with cold drinks at the pool after.

We spent about 5 minutes per anchor removing the Petzl Pulse backups for the v-threads. Future groups may want to bring a pipe cleaner to clean the Pulse holes for easier removal.

Comment: We were excited to finally check out Ashton as it is right in our backyard! The bushwhack section of the approach was tough. Having GPS was necessary for us to find the route. The hand line was much appreciated in the steepest section.

We enjoyed lunch with incredible views at the top of R1. The water was much warmer than anticipated. We used rope pro on the sharp ledge of R1. The rooster tails throughout were really incredible!

All v-threads were in good condition but we used back ups as suggested by previous reports. We also needed to zip packs down on several raps. Overall really amazing canyon experience!

Comment: Great day in great conditions. We'd been watching satellite imagery to track the snowpack and time a trip so the rooster tails would be active. The flows are running 6-8 weeks ahead of last year.

The v-thread anchors all survived the winter. However the bolt at R6 is damaged and should be treated as marginal, and replaced.

We could still follow the bushwhack route from last year.

Comment: Similar to previous reports, well worth the bushwhack (which we helped prune further), even in low flows. Will be coming back in higher flows to get the whole experience!

Selected "special challenge" to highlight the 2nd lip on R1 - it's very sharp! One core-shot rope, one sliced open finger.

Comment: 4 OUTSTANDING rappels with rooster tails, very fun to get behind the curtain on rappel. The other 4 rappels are not particularly noteworthy. The shallow jump is for experts only and was into a stomach-deep pool when we were there. We cut out most of the thickest Devils Club on the approach but more pruning with each group will be VERY HELPFUL and MUCH APPRECIATED by the community. Very convenient to Seattle. Thanks to the first descent team.

Comment: Ashton Creek is gorgeous and exceeded our expectations. There are many high quality, high vertical drops that are fun to rig and a fun challenge to navigate, even at lower flows (a3). Bravo to the first descent team for opening this one and setting beautiful rappel lines through the flow that are utter perfection (chef's kiss!) Don't be put off by the bushwhack, the canyon is well worth the effort it takes to get there and we were still back at the cars in time for happy hour. We spent time clearing out the worst of the brush, so there are fewer thorny things to get in the way now. All anchors are in good condition.
