Comments: Combined Fall Creek w/ Classic. Total time was to do both (and wandering around a bit in Big Tujunga Creek).

Poison oak is everywhere! If you are allergic, just jump right into the stream to avoid most of the poison oak. Your feet will get wet eventually. All the anchors had newer webbing and are in good shape. The 1st two rappels will drop you off into knee high pools. The 130 ft R3 was great and a lot of fun. Walking back upstream through Big Tujunga Creek was tiring as the recent rains washed any resemblance of trails until you get closer to the Fall Creek junction.

Comment: Classic combined with Fall Creek: Great for Beginners with some experience and above. Relaxed day trip with river wading no higher than waist at most.

Rain jackets only as Classic is short and it will be hot out. Bush wack but not terribe. If you only want to do one do Fall Creek. You will get more bang for your buck on this one — alone or combine it where Classic's 140' last rap is a great combo.

Using a rain jacket is all that’s needed, but I didn’t know this going in, and ANYONE RUNNING COLD wetsuits are only needed in the waterfalls or while waiting so adjust appropriately to your groups dynamics -- maybe only take in a neoprene jacket with your rain jacket or neoprene bottom halves to keep legs evenly warm.

Warning: Recent car burglaries have been reported during this trip. No window breaks, however. Looks like one rental car reported to have keyhole scratches and confirmed one vehicle with easy access to horn wires were cut or pulled. Three cars have had their cash inside taken and a few party supplies from one of the three.

Comment: Lots of Poison oak and stinging nettles in the canyon. Lots unavoidable. Had just a trickle of water flowing. The Tujunga creek was very nice to take a dip in. We almost got a rope stuck on the final rappel.

Comment: Classic creek and fall creek today, times is for both. Classic had a surprising amount of water for what is normally a dry canyon. The last rappel was super muddy but it was a fun little canyon nonetheless.

Comment: Nice warm up hike down to the first drop in point. I chose to bush wack/boulder along the hillside as oppoesed to bushwacking in the stream. Not that bad. First rap was DCR, webbing good. Second was DCL webbing good. 3rd rap was DCR webbing was good. I had the canyon to myself. That final rap was breathtaking. I chose to continue up stream and tackle Fall Creek.

Comment: Water level in the first pool was about 2 feet and very cold. All anchors looked fresh and in great condition. Big rap at the end was nice with low amount of loose rock. Exit DCR

Comment: Time includes fall creek. Bushwhacking after getting off trail down to canyon level prior to R1. Super stagnant pool off of R2 but easy to avoid; just be mindful so you don’t stink up your rope. R3 needs a slight webbing extension; we untied the equalizing knot to get the length to extend past the rock shelf so just be mindful of protecting the webbing. All anchors are good and the canyon is good fun.

Comment: Super bloom of poison oak; coupled with the overgrowth there are many instances of potential contact (including some leaves at face level while navigating trees and downed wood). Also super busy at the parking area; fully filled by 8:30am start. Rap 1 was retied; it looked newly placed but had 1” tail (fixed, but the short webbing made the angle less than ideal). Still some water to make it cool and enjoyable.

Comment: Started late at 9am, the drop-in was loose with a good amount of bushwhacking once you’re in the watercourse. First anchor was sun damaged and should be replaced in a few months. Two other anchors were newer with red webbing. Pools were at max half calf deep. The hike out back to the frail had dead PO but was manageable. Lots of dead overgrowth leading out. Got to the junction around 11, made an audible to head back without running falls since we didn’t want to risk hiking out near dusk without headlamps. All in all a nice quickie.

  • " So 'Classic Canyon' 'Sun 4/8/17'. The bottom drop in point has alot of Poison Oak. The First Rap. Drops into a waist deep pool of crystal clear water. Water flow is low. Second Rap. Drops into knee deep pool, also clean. Next pool can be by passed or continuation of second rap. Last Rap. There is..." SoCal Canyoneering

Comment: Tried to go few days after some significant rains but did not bring wetsuits, as we had successfully made it down Stone Plus One Canyon (3A III) the day before without issue. We assessed the first drop on Classic and it went into a pothole that was probably waist high or deeper right at the base - hard to tell from above. Since we didn't have wetsuits and didn't know the rest of the canyon we decided to cancel. Lesson to others: If there's a chance of water in the canyon, bring wetsuits to the drop-in and pick them up on the way out if you end up deciding not to use them.
