Comments: R1~85', not (60 is the drop, potentially). R2~150 if not downclimbing the crack on the left (my preffered option), fiddled. I passed by R2 tree, it's the biggest juniper on that ledge, otherwise there are multiple options. For those looking for a silly uncomfortable rappel, I can see an interesting rappel running that whole crack (~100'?).

While this is a good and enjoyable canyon, it's strangely non-intuitive and I wouldn't quite revere it like Ron. Regardless, it's fun, but definitely not better than hawk.

Comment: Contigo is a truly spectacular canyon, and I highly recommend taking the upper route and traversing the ravine via the CDL for the descent, just as Garrett Bennett, the first to descend it, envisioned. The craftsmanship of the well-placed bolts and discreet hangers, blending seamlessly into the rock, is impressive. The 60-foot first rappel sets the tone for the entire experience, followed by two exhilarating 150-foot rappels that reward the canyoneer. Replaced webbing at rappel 2. Soloing this canyon is an inspiring and unforgettable adventure. Although the route is relatively short, the breathtaking views make it an instant classic. I spent the entire day filming at the rappels.

Comment: With the webbing extended ~15' R1 is 85'. Following by a 16 downclimb on the left. R2 measurements are accurate. Only 2 rappels as we bypassed the first one by entering the mini slot. Found a new exit that bypasses the private property and also adds a bonus surprise. Take the next drainage south of contigo up to the saddle and over to the parking lot.

Comment: We took the end of rope approach via the alternate approach on that kml.

once coming around the corner on this approach we took an obvious mini slot section with easy yet scenic downclimbs and heads toward an obvious lower section with healthy trees on a flat section overlooking hartwell. when we arrived at this area we realized we had bypass r1 and arrived at r2. I will refer to the tree and ldc as r1 in the rest of the description.

r1. is a 150' 3 stage. we pulled rope on the second shelf and downclimed the last drop ldc. the pull was clean doing it this way and the downclimb was easy enough. this also will help preserve the vegetation.

r2. is roughly 150' as well if not larger. bolted anchor located center canyon with two trees on either side. this rappel was very nice as well

mainly on wall with two very brief and small freehangs.

A very quick and unique option. when I do it again I will probably use the same approach, we really enjoyed the mini slot and the rappels. Easy exit.

parked one car at hartwell as a shuttle. parked at end of rope approach parking.
