Comments: Did not descend Davis today, although the flow was likely doable for a strong team. More notably there is now a large log in the recirculating pool. It may get washed away before the season, however if you are the first team down this summer, make sure to get a look of the log from the road before descending! More logs/debris may arrive and be deposited here from the up stream log jame

Comment: Overcast slightly rainy day but all were comfortable. The redirects have no caribeaners.

Comment: Some recent rains bumped the water level up to moderate or more likely moderate-low. Rain also left everything in the canyon wet and slippery. This was my third time through Davis, and I have noticed this canyon is pretty slippery to begin with, combine that with a light moister coating on everything and it's even worse.

I've updated the beta for rappel lengths for R1 and R5. I brought my ultra-light 70foot rope for all the short rappels as listed previously on the beta and was short at R1 and R5 and had to extend my pulls, so the beta has been updated. Cleaned up several glass bottles and trash under the bridge. We did not have a safe way to carry out some broken glass. Future canyoners watch out for glass and if you have a spare empty keg to remove the glass that would be great. Found new anchor at the drop between R9 and R10 (Webbing DCL from root ball). This is the drop with the big knobby log that we all used to butt skootch down in years past. With new wood on this log and it being wet and slippery the new anchor was much appreciated and made for a safer drop rappelling.

Comment: What an amazing place! Went in loaded for bear, being new to PNW canyons. Overkill, but helped us proceed confidently Anchors were all great, and beta spot on.

Comment: Great day as always. Did observe some spontaneous rockfall at the bottom of R4 coming down off the cliffs DCR onto the ledges above the pool. Signs of recent rockfall - use caution.

Comment: Of many trips through Davis this was the funnest. Finally jumped R4b from the pour off - it was plenty deep. Did the slide at R6 for the first time as well - usually do the jump, plenty deep in any case. With jumps at R4b, R6, R7, and after R8 and R9, that's a lot of jumps. With the 5 minute approach and 10 minute exit must be the lowest pay-to-play ratio in WA. I've changed my rating to 5-stars due to the higher jump and slide. We were in canyon 2.5 hrs. Another 1/2 hr for shuttle and gearing up.

Comment: Great day in high flow.

Cleared the R4 anchor station of hundreds of lbs of debris. Used the redirect to stay out the flow.

Crux was the R5 slot/chute which needed careful footwork.

The logjam exit from the R6 slide-pool has shifted downstream. What remains is much less stable than before, and has a siphon under the surface. Be cautious here. The down-climb on the other side is similar to the last few years. A bolt DCR up on the wall may help protect swimmers, up-climbers, and down-climbers from shifting debris.

R7 recirc pool wasn’t problematic with a flat jump.

We put a hanger & carabiner (no webbing) on the naked R8 redirect bolt - it wasn’t clear from its ambiguous state that it was meant to be decommissioned. Don’t mind if it stays or goes, but I suspect more confusion if it’s partially decommissioned again. Perhaps a little project for the WCC to handle the physical & community communications around (the R6 slide also has some bolts that also need decommissioning).

Water temps weren’t nearly as cold as we expected.

Comment: Due to recent rainfall, water levels were pretty fun but not overwhelming. All anchors were in good shape, I avoided the bees by using the alt DCL tree. Might have been the last run for 2023, the air temps were quite cool and I def felt the chill towards the end of the canyon even in a dry suit. Amazing place, I can see why everyone goes here, I hope to get out there next season again!! I also did my best to look for trash under the bridge and didn't see anything laying around. I documented this canyon with current conditions and obstacles which I'm sure will change but I will add the vid to the media subpart of this canyon page.

Comment: R9 anchor log unstable. It is balanced on a pile of smaller logs right at the anchor webbing. Anchor Log shifted down 3 inches when 205lb rappeller went vertical. The rest of the team down climbed. Water is low but still fun. R5 pool rock exposed about 1ft above the water. Great day in Davis.

View in attached photo is from midway down the down climb, looking back up-canyon at anchor. The anchor log is the horizontal log in the photo. Webbing is just visible at top of anchor log.

Comment: Very fun day in Davis! All the anchors looked to be in great condition and the jumps were great! We used the redirect for R4, but the flow was plenty tame to have gone straight down. The swirling pothole for R7 presented no challenges to any of the members.
