Comments: Beautiful canyon! High walls, high quality raps, gorgeous slot with a big grandiose feel! Was definitely floored by this one! 5/4 wetsuit was comfy. We helped a beginner through and took our time. Loved the scenery! Plenty of unique and memorable features in this one! We suited up at parking and desuited at cars, hardly any dry hiking no bush. Wish it lasted longer!

Comment: So two things. The pothole slide dcr with a log probably goes? But I wasn't brave enough to check it. It also makes jumping really awkward.

The famous Davis boulder has once again moved! It's now about 6-7' underwater and has been pushed about 6 feet back in the pool. This rappel might finally go as a slide but we didn't test it. I would be keen to go back and try it through. Breaking a tailbone or leg is def possible though if it doesn't go.

Comment: One team member sprained their thumb after slipping while creek walking at the bottom of upper davis falls. He was able to rappel left handed and we made our way slowly down the rest of the canyon. The R5 traverse line bolt, R6 bypass anchor and R7 v thread loop were all essential to finishing strong. Thankfully non catastrophic albeit still a wake up call to take creek walking very seriously.

Comment: Great day in Davis flow was still playful but not bad. Anchors were in good shape…new single hanger by the old log jam spins but usable. Checked this pool with goggles and only one log is in the pool so slide goes and a precision jump it also possible, just don’t hit the log! The slide is probably safer option. Didn’t see a bolt at the R9 sketchy down climb, would be great for a single here unless we are blind and missed it.

Comment: Conditions remarkably similar to ~3 weeks ago.

Completed previously reported anchor maintenance, everything should be in great shape. Also added anchors to the exit of the first pothole to facilitate staging people & packs. It's still unclear if the log in this pool blocks the entrance slide or not.

    Comment: NEXT TEAMS PLEASE BRING:
    • A good ring hanger and variety of different nuts for R3b. We tried the nut from a 3/8" Simpson Strong Bolt 2 - it almost fit, but it binded up after one rotation. Maybe it's an M10, or 9/16" with a different thread.
    • 5mm sheathed Dyneema cord for the exit of pothole #2. It's still functional but the sheath is heavily core-shot.

Davis is still running high, and swift-water skills are necessary.

We bypassed pothole #1 using the high DCL anchor the team earlier this year added. However we did confirm the exit of the pool is a fun slide! If the log blocks the entrance slide is TBD.

Excellent day with just the right level of challenges that let us take our time to practice skills & decision making. Only real negative is that the creek is frigging slippery.

Comment: -The logs at R2 have shifted to over the pool, now goes as an L sit shallow jump, in lower water consider bolting wet line dcr.

-R3 log anchor gone, still a down climb. The convenient log we sit while rigging R4 has shifted away from the wall.

-To make accessible at higher flows consider bolting a traverse anchor to R5, a meat traverse anchor was required here.

-The log jam between R6 and R7 is gone. Apparently it’s what it was like 10 yrs ago. At this flow it looked like white death. So we scrambled up the side of the canyon dcl and bolted an anchor that dropped us into the pool beneath where the log jam used to be.

-At higher flow consider using a bag anchor at R7 instead of sending a swimmer down to set up a guided off the dyneema hand loop as we did. Even with flotation (or because of it) one can become temporarily stuck in this recirc.

-R8 isn’t the crux everyone makes it out to be, but we meet anchor guide rapped it due to a drysuit malfunction.

-The log jam at “R9” is gone, it’s now a very very shallow slide and could use a bolt station.

-R10 is cleaned out a bit, in lower flow a wet line dcr might be nice.

-All pre existing bolts are intact, more will be needed because so much wood has been cleared out.

-We left a rim rope as an escape line just below R4 which we didn’t end up using. After running the canyon we were pooped. I’ll come back for it.

Comment: Another late season run. I replaced the webbing on R2 (root ball above Upper Davis Falls) as the current webbing was pretty damaged.

Comment: The new bolts are indeed lovely! The water level is definelty low at this point. The boulder at the bottom of the V slot is above water. Make sure to scout the jumo at the bottom of Upper Davis Falls as there is new(ish) rock just below the surface DCL.

Comment: Agree with Nclegg's condition report with regard to flow. From the photo comparison, could make a case for moderate flow, but conditions in canyon were evaluated as moderate-low.

Comment: Flow looked moderate according to reference photos but felt more on the moderate-low side. Incredibly slippery creek. 5/4mm was comfortable. Approximately 2.5h in canyon and 30 min to gear down and walk the road and retrieve our vehicle.

Comment: Canyon is in great shape. The maintenance and newer bolts have improved it a lot and made the canyon easier to run than I remember from a couple years ago. The water felt and looked like a strong moderate. It may have picked up a little from the rain. Was a good day!

Comment: We spent 3 hours hauling and cutting the log out of the whirlypool. Would’ve been nice to still have a redirect, even if decommissioned, on R8. Great trip, great team, great canyon!
