Comments: Ambitiously attempted in 1.5 days. Hiked in about 7 miles from Barnhardt TH on the afternoon of day 1. With only limited beta, we intended to descend the full canyon and exit to Barnhardt TH on day 2. Above the lower narrows, we got eyes on the final large rap / rap sequence as well as our not-so-confidence-inspiring exit route. We decided to bail from the canyon up a steep gully CL, rather than bivy mid-canyon, after checking our rapidly dwindling food supply and assessing how much additional time would be required to complete the endeavor. Our sprits were then further compromised upon being thoroughly assaulted by a series of thick and particularly hostile manzanita groves. One team member cursed these mountains and swore to never return. Next year he returned to descend Shake Tree.
