Comment: P6 anchor has minor damage from rock fall (one of the plates is a bit squished) but still functional.

P7 anchor had a bolt missing... appears to have been impacted by a rock fall that shear cut one of the bolts. New bolt has been installed.

Comment: Took a couple people new to Monkeyface down the canyon, time is reflective of that.

Great day, nice to see the looks on first-timers faces. Got chilly in a 2mm over 5 hrs, I was shivering after the two stage. Noticed that there is now a boulder perched atop the upside down tree, which contributes to the smaller rappel target I reported earlier in the week. First timers easily cleared the tree by rappelling on their backs.

Parks employee came by to ask us how much flooding had changed the canyon, he was surprised that there was not more change because adjacent canyons are full of debris.

Comment: Great day. The water was quite cold, but otherwise a lovely sunny day. The webbing on R7 is frayed, we didn't use it and rapped from another log instead.

Comment: Awesome canyon! First time in the roost. Crazy dark narrows and non relenting until it opens up. Absolutely stunning. Anchor at pothole in good shape.

Comment: Beta doesn't accurately represent the challeneges we faced. Lots of trchnical downclimbs (with backpacking bags) waist deep wades, and technical anchor rigging. First rap anchor offf the chokstone was dry rotted and flashed over. Set a rap 2 pull 1 anchor off a tree 15 feet up LDC. After, we used a meat anchor for first downclimb as it was slick with a rocky landing. Third "down climb" I used webbing off a small chokstone and extended webbing to the crack in the lip. We all locked off then downlclimbed to weight the anchor then rapped. There is a sketchy handline in place that is very core shot. We decided against because of this and the quicksand below. Theres a lot of technical downclimbs and slotted sections in bewtween the first "2" raps (10ft +50ft to the 2 bolted one). Went off the rap ring off single bolt due to lack of time and quality of webbing. After there was a technical class x stemming section that was very difficult with backpacking packs. After drops into stomach deep water then the canyon opens up for mile until the last rap. Camped in the long open canyon section. Next morning alsmot stuck a rope on last rap because of friction. Would reccomend a toggle for retrieval. Overall very fun canyon, wish i knew the correct beta beforehand.

Comment: Great time at Keyhole. Anchors looked to be in good condition. Water was either a swimmer or chest deep in some locations. My 3mm wetsuit worked perfectly for this canyon. Beware of the handline located near the end as it can be hard to spot if needed.

Comment: Great time at Pine Creek today. A few swimmers scattered throughout. Should have opted some better thermals. Final rappel on the right side is in good shape. Didn't see any holes within the faux floor.

Comment: Observation Point Canyon is open again.

Replaced webbing on most drops (except 2nd to last which weirdly looked brand new).

The 2nd rappel (below the long down climb) has options... People have anchored off of several ugly bushes with uglier pulls. We went further down and left and used a moderate tree, but the sandy exposed down climb sucked and had lots of loose rocks to knock off the drop. There were some large rocks that looked possible to anchor off of in the middle of the (left) watercourse that may have been the best option?

Comment: Pools are mostly full. Springs were flowing through a portion of the canyon (below the 60' rap). A dead fox in the first section of narrows. Exit drainage was also lightly flowing, which made some of the climbs more challenging.

Comment: Great canyon with some standout fun features if you don’t mind a few spectators. R3 anchor situation is a little convoluted right now, with a pointless anchor at the very top that we’ll remove on the next run. R6 log is still there, we routed the rope below it and the pull was fine. Enjoy the flow on R2. Slide is still good and a bunch of fun. We did the loop starting from the bottom, even without the shuttle it’s an easy 30 minute approach. We took our time with a very slow relaxed pace, could easily do it in 2 hours car to car.

Comment: All anchors were good, slides and jumps were more shallow than normal. Shallow technique is required even for jumps and slides that normally go.

More moss than peak season, watch for slippery edges and climbs.

Comment: Leisurely stroll through Bonita with plenty of breaks. Toggle was used on R2 and R4; I’d recommend ghosting R4 because pull can be difficult. R3’s anchor was difficult to pull from as well, but not too challenging and would have been easy to ascend.

Water level’s picking up in Bonita, and I found myself a little chilly at times in a 2mm and rain jacket. Looking forward to running this one come spring-time!
