Comments: Really solid route with a alot of beauty, unique rock, and fun rappels!
Approach starts out on a normal hiking trail for about 2 miles then delves into the bush. The bush is thick at times with little defined trail. We started seeing old flagging here and there about 1/4 way up the hill, faint trails begin to appear. The final traverse over is a little hard to follow and ends in a total dense bushwhack through maple trees with little visibility. It took us about 2.5hrs to reach the canyon. Our other 2 partners started late and ran much of the approach catching up to us and shaving an hour off their approach.
Most of the canyon is black rock with swirly white striations throughout, stunning! The rappels are all pretty high quality and very enjoyable! Not really any jumps very minimal slides.
I was very warm in my 5/4 probably could have gotten away with a 4/3.
Another quick bushwhack back out of the creek to the main trail.
Really fun worthwhile route!

Comment: Great canyon. It was in low-moderate conditions. Approach has a use trail but the start was a bushwhack until we reached the flagging. Flagging trail is easy to lose. At times the use trail is well defined, other times it is overtaken by brush. Took us about 1.5 hours at fast pace. Canyon had no special challenges… it was really fun.

Comment: A beautiful day in Lake Creek. Flow was moderate and very friendly. Quite the difference from our descent three weeks prior where flow was high. We replaced old style hangers on R1 and R17 with ring hangers as well as replaced a few webbing anchors. We started our approach at 7:30am which put us in the main section of the canyon in full sun which was incredibly beautiful. A great canyon as always if you're willing to make the approach.

Comment: Early season high flow run really brings out the best in this canyon. Fun level of spicy flow which demands respect but was manageable, beautiful rock, great views, rooster tails everywhere - this canyon was in 5* mode.
Added a few bolts in places, and replaced webbing elsewhere. A future effort to replace rusted old hardware would definitely be good, so consider bringing a bunch of stainless hangers and a wrench to upgrade them. | |||||||

Comment: A nice day out in the always charming Lake Creek. Flow was low for this time of year. All bolts in good shape. We replaced all webbing on natural anchors, and removed many of the Y-hangs to make the anchors unlinked. The webbing gets trashed/rotten each year, and we didn't think it was worth replacing so much webbing for the 1-2 groups a year that make it out to this remote creek. Some of these bolts could use an additional set of stainless quick links to orient the rope so they don't get pinched on the pull on the standard hangers.

Comment: “Trail” pretty washed out, slides. Tape was found mostly on ground- but there was enough to get to top. Could use some tape along traverse the top. We traversed at about 2200’. It was definitely a pretty canyon. The river literally cut a windy channel though the rock. Pretty cool. Unfortunately the last 3-4 raps we did in the dark, so didn’t get to see the pretty view as previously mentioned. But, hey doing it at night was sort of fun as well. A little over 5 hrs descent. 1.5 exit.
Rap 2- replaced webbing and link Rap 3- replaced webbing and link Rap 7- replaced webbing and link Next season, most likely will need to replace more of the anchors. Would like to return when it’s a little more sunny and more flow (which would prob make our overall score higher). Water temp wasn’t too bad, but we didn’t know what it actually was. I wore a 3 and dry top. Korey had on a 5. Rap rope lengths seemed off. We think it’s because the water was lower then when previous parties ran it. On average about 10’. Last rap was a tad hard to reach when weighted. Same with Rap 11. But not impossible. :)

Comment: The hike in was arduous and time consuming and made up at least half of the total time. Time in canyon was approx. 6hrs. Flow was low, the hanging pothole had been scoured back out of rocks and we replaced webbing and links on multiple anchors (see Jana's report) The canyon was stunning and clearly a less traveled one. Was sweating in my 6/5 wetsuit.

Comment: A fantastic day in a remote and special place. Lake Creek had not been run in the past two years and we completed a good amount of anchor replacement, using over 100' of webbing and 10+ quick links. We added an additional drop to the beta above the previous first rappel. All of the bolts were in good condition. Rockfall had completely filled the pool atop the last rappel with jagged rocks (see attached photo).

Comment: Great trip. Did anchor maintenance from the first descent trip in 2018 and added an extra drop to the beta. Flow was great for beginners to play around in.
