Comment: It was a HOT day (high of 103) and, as is par for the course, we got a later start than we hoped. Some of that's our own fault (why do I always think stopping for gas and snacks takes 5 minutes, when really it takes 20-30?), but we were also delayed by lane closures from construction work being done on route 70. This is causing 15-30 minute delays in both directions from the canyon.
The approach was miserable: it's fully in the sun and uphill the whole way! Ugh, it's like we had to go up as much as the canyon goes down. The only shade was provided by small bushes and husks of burned out trees. We took long rests, huddled in these tiny shade spots because we were silly enough to bring a woman 3-months postpartum who is out of shape and needed to rest every 100 feet (pst, it's me). We were the first group through for the season and replaced or added webbing on about half of the anchors. We did fiddle several of the drops (R5 & 6 IIRC) where we removed webbing, so future groups should be aware they need to build anchors or bring a fiddlestick (or similar). The flow was moderate-high (a4+); it was strong enough to push you around a bit on rappel, and make you cautious of where you were putting your feet, but there were no special challenges. A short-sleeved 3mm wetsuit was perfect on a hot day. Some of the rock (even the dry rock) is slippery due to algae. Move cautiously. Or go fast and dangerous, I guess, if you like playing Russian roulette with your skull. This is a 3.5 star canyon: the canyon itself is 4 stars, with several fun, photogenic rappels, but the approach the approach is hot and the exit an annoyingly long boulder hop down the creek. I'm officially giving it a 4 to balance out some of the 3s from previous trip reports.

Comment: Flow was very less but, all the pools were clear and still flowing. It was very hot in that area. 75F to 80F untill midnight. 11 hours is not because of the canyon but, the group was very slow.

Comment: Low flow & hot weather so getting into the water helped. Approach was warm & humid. Would be nice to try this with a gentle flow.
Camping Note: A lot of free camping around the area. Camping at the exit requires a vehicle with some clearance & grip to get over the 2 bumps. There are a lot of mosquitoes, a long train along the river that blares all night and shakes the canyon as it roars through, very hot at night even in a tent that was 90% mesh & we had a hard time sleeping. Sleeping in the car was too hot and not able to keep mosquitos out with the windows open. Next visit might be better to stay in the local motel?

Comment: Great canyon that would be fantastic if the rappels were always in the water. Half way down we started ignoring the pre-rigged anchors and used releasables to rappel in the waterfalls.
