Comments: The approach indeed require route finding, but it's not as terrible as people describe it to be. We went in with a scavenger hunt mentality and were picking up observing pieces of the air plane on approach and in canyon, and had lots of fun. All anchors were good, we didn't have to replace webbing. There was a lot of falling leaves and one member got itchy and later on ended up with hives. Still worth it.

Comment: Fun little canyon if you like torturous hikes and airplane wreckage. Went with a friend that works on A-10’s, so we spent about 2 hrs sorting through the wreckage. The hike up is a bear. Very steep and unrelenting. Dropping into the canyon was almost as bad. The canyon itself is very brushy. All the anchors were in good shape. Route finding was pretty easy. The canyon itself is pretty meh. If it weren’t for all the cool airplane parts it would not be worth doing.

Comment: First off, there's pretty much no way this canyon is worth doing just to see a little bit of plane wreckage.
I also would probably suggest contouring somewhere before the steeper cliffs at what I called R2 (actually my R1), where there is a side fork that can be DCed or rappeled. Appx 36.901552, -113.837017 This avoids approximately 300' of elevation gain that is the steepest and most annoying- besides the fact that you lose much of it going back down the canyon with no features. Note that this does miss seeing the debris (what little pieces I saw) scattered on the hillside on the way up. The rap off of the engine in canyon is what I'm guessing they are calling the 110' rap??? This can be done with about 75'of rope and then do a short 10' easy-moderate DC. Crossing the Virgin was from shin to knee deep depending on crossing point. Anchors looked mostly very good. I suggest starting at about 6am and most of the approach is in the shade.

Comment: We crossed the Virgin River where it wasn't much more than knee deep. Cool weather and taking our time through the steepest part of the approach made the approach reasonable. Many anchors did not have webbing and we used releasable riggings, so those anchors still don't have webbing. There was a huge amount of wreckage on the approach, throughout the canyon, and on the opposite wall of the canyon, including destroyed 30mm rounds. We didn't find any intact rounds, but many still had their primers.
