Comment: Looked like we were the first trip of the season. Only had to do a little digging to remove gravel around anchors. We replaced some webbing, but not all. Ignored anchors that we could downclimb. Made it to the big boulder about 90 minutes before sunset, so perfect timing.

Comment: This was the first run of Styx for this season. Plus Hurricane Hilary and the flooding made for a lot of anchor rebuilding and rock farming. Set up shuttle the night before and left the trailhead at about 6:15am as the sun was coming up. All anchors needed to be rebuilt/repaired. Made it to the final simul-rap just as we were losing light and had a great sunset. Another awesome trip through Styx. A DeVa classic!!

Comment: Ran this canyon for the first time with KMiller & Co, an excellent group and am amazing day out. As noted in KMiller's report, all anchors needed to be rebuilt after Hilary came through and washed everything out of the canyon. All anchors were left with new webbing and in good condition. Lots of rappels, a wide variety of downclimbs, amazing rock formations, and a simul-rappel to end the day all make for an amazing experience. Thank you to the group for such a great trip!

Comment: All cairn anchors were good - and we beefed up some of them in the upper technical section. As previous reports say, there are not a lot of rocks halfway through the first technical section, so be ready to farm them from upper stations if needed. Lots of fun and spicy downclimbs in the lower technical section - we used a meat anchor once to get everyone down safely. The house-sized boulder at the end was in fact very memorable, with great views in the sunset and the opportunity to counterbalance rappel.

Comment: A long, fun day in Styx (North Canyon). We left the parking lot just before 7:00am. Straightforward and easy approach. We were the first group through the canyon since the heavy rains and flooding at the end of last summer. ALL of the anchors had been washed away and needed to be re-built as deadmans or cairns. We brought about 200 feet of webbing, 20+ rapides, some nuts, and other materials. Overkill for a regular day in Styx but we planned for a first descent after the heavy rains. We did have to farm rocks from other rappel stations during the first technical section as materials were scarce. It was a really fun day. A bunch of partner-assist downclimbs and other problem-solving opportunities. The anchor building made for a long day, but it was a ton of fun navigating the various problems. Check out the video in the Trip Report link.

Comment: Encountered six more rappels (22r) than listed originally (16r). All anchors and webbing passed inspection and required no replacement. There was a foot path for the approach and in the canyon. We had a mostly relaxed pace but used four ropes to get everyone through.

Comment: Replaced most webbing, but anchors were well-built for easy inspection. Set shuttle in morning and weren't in a hurry, last 2 raps in dark.

Comment: A beautiful canyon with a few raps in quick succession. Great day. Nothing's over 105' but the canyon is well worth it!

Really beautiful boulder arch at the end.

Comment: Perfect temperatures, but fairly windy on the approach and beginning. All anchors were already present and usable, though a few are probably getting close to needing replacement. There were a few small puddles that were avoidable if you were careful. One waterfall had a slow trickle of water over it. Dead deer about half way down, but the smell wasn't too bad. Long time was atypical -- a standard group probably wouldn't take quite as long.
